Dialogue

For this assignment, we used our previous skills of motion, timing, and dealing with characters and mixed it with sound. We were tasked with animating a character to a 5-10 second clip of audio. The character could be yours or one that already existed, but the body had to be involved. This assignment was a lot harder than it looked. Making sure everything was together and matched the audio was definitely the hardest part. I'm not a fantastic drawer but I think I did pretty well despite it. This was the last project of the class and the result is shown below. Thank you so much for following me on this journey and I hope you come back for more artwork from me in the future!

Weight

For this assignment, we had to create a character interacting with an object that had weight to it. What the object was was completely up to you just as long as there was a struggle shown and the character either conquered or failed in the end. I chose to have my character try and push a filing cabinet. Unfortunately the character did not succeed, but at least he tried. Below is the final product!

Flour Sack Animation

This assignment required 2 parts. The first part was creating a flour sack character expressing 5 emotions/actions. We then took one of these actions and produced an animation in Harmony. The hardest part was volume control. Copying and pasting is not an option for this assignment since it's a character so drawing the flour sack every time and trying to make it look the exact same was complicated. I learned that as I kept drawing, I was drawing better sacks which is why the ending frame looks so much different than the first one. Below is the finished product!

Overlapping Action and Followthrough

In class we learned how to do multiple actions with a swinging pendulum. While we had the base move from left to right, the pendulum swung with it causing an overlapping action. Once the base reached the right side, because of momentum the pendulum kept going and then settled later instead of abruptly stopping. The hardest part was keeping everything in the same position while also trying to make it move, but it turned out alright in the end. Below is my finished video!

Bouncing Ball

Using what I learned during the timing and spacing assignment, I was tasked with creating a bouncing ball that would react with 3 different obstacles. I had to show the ball squishing and bouncing back up after it hit a wall and it losing momentum towards the end. This assignment required the timing to be perfect and the right amount of spacing for the frames so the ball wasn't stagnant in energy for the the duration of the assignment. Below is the final video of my bouncing ball!

Time and Spacing

For this assignment we learned about time and spacing. Some of the techniques we used were linear, slow in, slow out, slow in/out, overshoot/settle, and vibration. Using Harmony, we created "balls" that would move across the timeline and perform a specific technique. Some of them required shorter frames in the beginning and longer ones at the end, but others required the opposite or maybe both. Below are 2 videos of me using the different techniques in Harmony!

Introduction

Welcome to my blog! My name is Myles Boyd and I am a senior at the University of Tampa, but I am originally from Milford, CT. I am majoring in New Media with the hopes of being a film/movie producer and maybe doing some work in front of the camera myself. I have an interest in making vlogs and just documenting my everyday life, but also have an interest in creating characters and exploring my creative side. I'm hoping this class will help me enhance my drawing skills and finding new ways to be creative digitally so I can use those techniques in the real world. Stick around and enjoy the show!
